Over in Canny, I just posted a request for Help Text for the Title field. I'm sure about that one.
I was about to post a second request โ that the Title field be capable of being a proper formula field (as it is in Airtable) โ but I'm hesitating because I'm not sure I understand why SmartSuite's devs designed the Title the way it is. (Great comment from G.K. Chesterton, originally, I think, apropos brick walls on property, but applicable to other things. To paraphrase, he said, if you're about to remove something because you can't see the point of it, perhaps you should pause and SEE the point of it before proceeding.)
Anyway, that's where I am with this request. SmartSuite resembles Airtable in many respects but in some respects, where SmartSuite differs, it's clearly better. Is that the case with the Title field? I really like the option of requiring that the Title field contain only unique values, and in general, mine do. But more often than not, in SmartSuite I use the Auto Generated option for Title fields. And then I'm basically creating a formula field โ but with an inferior, too limited formula editor.
Before I request the option to make the Title field more like a regular field (with at least several of the field-type options), am I missing something? Is there some really good reason why the Title field does NOT have a more flexible formula editor?
NOTE 1: I am 100% aware that it's possible to create a second field that is a proper formula field, and then simply have the Title field reference that one. But that's a workaround and almost makes the point that the Title field could and should be a normal formula field.`
NOTE 2: I am also aware that โ well, better to say that it occurs to me that it probably wouldn't be a good idea for the title field to be certain types of field. So it would make sense for the title field to be limited to certain data types: short text, perhaps number and date or date/time.
