Filter by "this week" , "This Month", "This Quarter", "This Year"

Is there a simple way to filter by "this week", "This Month", "This Quarter", "This Year"

without having to enter an exact date range?

For example, if I want to filter by "This Month" based on a date field I want it to return the current month (April for example) and not a rolling 30 days

I want to use this feature, especially in dashboards to track KPIs

I might be missing something simple here
