SmartDoc template used in new record

Hey all,

I'm fairly new to Smartsuite coming from being heavily into coda and a little Airtable. We have in the past run our small business on coda, but are in the process of transferring over to Smartsuite. No need to go into the why now - but more to give you some context. We went deep into coda, so I'm not afraid to go into the weeds here either where necessary.

In designing our new system, I really would love to leverage the power of smart docs to communicate information to our team.
To do this effectively, it would be excellent to use it almost like a form. I imagine creating a smart doc in a template solution which just has the basic headings, and every time a record is created in another solution/app there is an automation to copy the template into the new record ready for someone to fill out the details in. EDIT : I forgot the important part. This would allow a bunch of different templates to be used depending on a number of other fields in a record. Say checkboxes or a selection field. Different templates for different scenarios. I have worked out I can copy formatted text into the default field - but that is just one template!

Think information for someone who is working and is having a client meeting. Its a little more unstructured than database fields - as different kinds of meetings / interactions need different info.

I have done a bit of searching, and I have not found anything that really matches this - but I could just be searching for the wrong terminology.

I've tried a bunch of stuff using automations, but have not managed any success.
Would I be right in thinking I could just create a markdown templates externally to coda, and throw it into a field in zapier/make and have it copy it into the smart doc field upon a new record being created with certain conditions being met? Seems convoluted, but it might be a solution?

Are there other simpler ways to achieve this?

TLDR : I'd love a new record smart doc field to be pre-loaded with info (different info depending on content of other fields)

I can't see how to do this simply with automations / template in another solution.

Many thanks all. Brendan.
