Examples of constants?

Here's a few I've used many times in the past.

Messages to users. So, based on certain circumstances, a message is given to a user (based on the selection of other switches / selects in a table). Rather than bury that message inside a giant \"if\" statement in an app (which is hard to maintain) it goes in a separate table that can be looked up in a formula. If the message needs to change, it is super easy to maintain.

Card rates - the base rate charged to client which is where negotiations for budgets start. If it is in a constant form, it is super easy to generate deal memos and the like which can go out to a client. These figures are \"stamped\" into the form. Using a constants table (or just a table to look up) feels an easier way to look after these things. Having the rates in a single app / table is great to lookup / source of knowledge for others as well.

URL's - a place to keep all url's for buttons. URL's change - and having a single place to display them rather than hidden inside automations etc seems better to me.

Of course - a lot of this is caused by me coming to smartsuite from other databases - and I'm very quickly needing to completely rethink how things are done. I just keep coming back to this issue. There are ways around it sure, but long term viability and usability / maintainance feels compromised to me by the way smartsuite structures data. It also means its less likely to be able to offer more advanced formulas in the future - where databases are truly dynamic and feed off themselves. You know - the stuff many of us do by juggling data in an outside system (even just google sheets).

Going deeper into the weeds - being able to potentially link to any record is important if one wants to implement something like currency conversion. We could easily create a table that grabs currency rates for our most used currencies daily via google sheets. (We have a google sheet already that does this - adds a line each day at the same time and grabs the forex rates for each used currency).

Then, budgets could be updated to reflect the currency conversion rates on the date we are paid - so we can have a single source of knowledge about profitability of projects automatically - rather than manually having to put in that amount. Of course many of these things can be done with make / zapier, but I am really focussed on trying to achieve as much as possible inside the constrains of smartsuite so as to make the whole experience easier to maintain / not rely on one person in a business (me) to keep it going all the time.
